Ceramic wall art begins with an object no one else on the street owns: a hand-glazed ceramic flower that hangs flat on a single screw. Chive Studio has designed these in Toronto since 2004 — five collections, one coordinated colour system, stocked at Keramiekmuseum Princessehof and 200+ art galleries and botanical gardens worldwide.

All Ceramic Flowers

Ceramic wall flowers are exactly what the name says: kiln-fired flowers, glazed by hand, built to hang on a wall instead of sitting in a vase. Each one mounts on a single small screw and sits flush, which means a finished arrangement asks nothing of the wall beyond the hardware already in a kitchen drawer. There is no water, no light requirement, and no maintenance — the colour is fused into the glaze at kiln temperature, so the flower on the wall in year ten is the flower that came out of the box.

The range runs across five collections — English Garden, France, Japan, Coastal, and Coral — developed as one coordinated colour system, so any combination a person arrives at will hang together. Sizes run from 7.5 cm accents to 15 cm statement pieces. Start with the collection whose palette already suits the room, or start with one flower and let the wall argue for the next. Most walls win that argument.

Gallery Wall Ideas

The strongest gallery wall ideas mix pieces that share a design language without repeating themselves — and dimensional objects are what separate a gallery wall from a grid of frames. Ceramic flowers were built for this job: a 15 cm bloom anchors the arrangement, 10 and 12.5 cm flowers carry the middle, 7.5 cm pieces finish the edges. Because every Chive flower is shaped by hand — the wall flowers are made without molds, so no two are exactly alike — a group of them reads as a collection, not a multiple. Mix collections freely; the palettes were designed to cohere. Three flowers make a start. Five make a wall.

Wall Art for Living Room

Wall art for a living room has one structural problem: the room is viewed from across itself, so flat prints flatten further with distance. Three-dimensional ceramic holds its presence from the sofa, the doorway, and the corner of the eye. The five collections cover the range of living rooms — English Garden for traditional and cottage rooms, France for romantic interiors, Coastal for neutral palettes, Japan for minimalist and japandi spaces, Coral for rooms that want one bright, unexpected object. One statement flower over the console works. A climbing arrangement up the stair wall works harder.

Frequently asked questions about Chive ceramic flowers

How do ceramic wall flowers attach to the wall?

One small screw per flower: set the screw, slide the keyhole slot on the back over it, and the flower sits flat against the wall. Hardware is included and installation takes about ninety seconds. No brackets, no adhesive strips, no drilling template — a level screw is the entire system.

Can you rearrange ceramic flowers after hanging them?

Yes — because each flower hangs on its own screw, any piece lifts off and rehangs in seconds, so an arrangement can grow or reshuffle as the wall evolves. Move one, add three, start over entirely. The screw holes are small enough that the wall forgives every past decision.

What are good wedding gift ideas?

Wedding gift ideas that outlast the registry: a set of handmade ceramic wall flowers gives a couple the first art in the new home rather than the fourth appliance. The flowers arrive gift-ready, hang with one screw each, and grow into an arrangement as anniversaries add to it. Registries end. Walls continue.

What is a good gift for her?

A gift for her that proves the giver was paying attention: a hand-glazed ceramic flower in the exact palette she keeps photographing in other people’s houses. It is not another candle, it does not expire, and it does not need water — it hangs on the wall as a permanent, architectural compliment. Choose her birth month’s flower, her favourite colour, or the collection that matches the room she is slowly perfecting. She gets art. The wall gets an upgrade. The giver gets credit indefinitely, which is the real return on a well-chosen gift.

What is textured wall art?

Textured wall art is any wall piece with real physical relief — and hand-glazed ceramic is the durable end of the category. Each Chive flower carries the actual dimension of folded petals and kiln-fired glaze, not a printed shadow of one. The texture is structural, so it never flattens, fades, or peels. Light moves across it differently at every hour, which is the entire point of texture on a wall.

Is 3D wall art hard to install?

No — 3D wall art in ceramic installs with a single screw per piece, the same effort as hanging a small frame. The keyhole mount on the back means no wires, no cleats, and no measuring beyond one level mark. Dimensional art has a reputation for complicated hardware; these were designed to end it.

What works as entryway decor?

Entryway decor works when it reads instantly — the space is passed through, not sat in. A group of three to five ceramic flowers beside the door gives the entry colour and dimension without a console’s footprint, and the one-screw mount suits the narrow wall every entryway seems to have. First impressions are made at eye level. Put the flowers there.

What are some wall decor ideas that don’t involve frames?

Wall decor ideas beyond frames: dimensional objects — ceramic flowers, sculptural pieces, hand-built forms — that give a wall depth instead of another rectangle. A climbing arrangement of glazed flowers up a stairwell, a single 15 cm bloom over a doorway, a colour-graded row above the sofa. Frames repeat a shape. Objects change the wall’s geometry, which is what decor is for.
